Beauty Secrets Of A Traveling Woman: 10 Simple Tips

Let’s face it, life on the go is challenging. Though, we still want to look our best on the road. When traveling for business you’re busy with client meetings, conferences and marathon days. The last thing you need to worry about is how your makeup looks. Remember to keep it simple and less is more when it comes to beauty on the go.

Today simplicity is vital, especially with the TSA restrictions on liquids in carry-on luggage. It is essential that you stay informed and up to date with the latest travel news. Being informed can make the difference between having toothpaste in you bag or having to rely on breath mints to freshen up instead.

Even seasoned travelers fall prey to the liquid free zone. Recently, at the Miami airport, I dumped a few personal items into the gray plastic bin at the security checkpoint. Much to my surprise, I had a tube of lip gloss in my possession. No, I did not have a temper tantrum; instead I politely nodded when the TSA worker whisked away my tube of lip gloss to the land of homeless beauty items.

I did breathe a little easier knowing that the lip gloss was a drugstore purchase and not one of the ridiculously expensive brands. My purse strings were not tremendously affected, though my pride was hurt. I knew better.

Before your next trip take a look at these 10 Simple Tips to staying beautiful on the go.

1. Keep it Simple. Leave all of the full size bottles and containers at home. Try searching the internet for trial and travel size toiletries. Use products that travel well and are space savers. Towelettes are ideal options for traveling light. Towelettes come in several forms; deodorant, lotion, perfume, polish remover, sunscreen and insect repellent.

2. Less is More. Pack only the essentials. A wonderful addition to your cosmetic arsenal is the all purpose or 3-in- 1 crayon/pencil. You can find terrific options for an eye/cheek/lip pencil from several makeup manufacturers. This multi purpose item saves lots of space and gives you a pulled together look that is low maintenance.

3. One Color Scheme. Keep the makeup palette in the same family. This cuts down on the amount of cosmetic items you need and it will give you a more professional look. Try a great bronzer to give you a little color and a great glow.

4. Let Your Eyes Have Cake. If you?re like me, I can go without the lipstick, blush and eye shadow. Though, the one thing I must have is mascara. Limited amounts of liquid mascara are allowed in your carry-on luggage. If traveling through the security checkpoint gives you the creeps, try packing some cake mascara. Cake mascara was popular years ago and it is now being used more often because it is travel friendly.

5. Moist Lips are Hip. Keep the lip gloss in the checked luggage. Lipstick in limited quantities is allowed in your carry on luggage. Make sure it is a moisturizing lipstick. Some of the long lasting formulas are extremely drying to the lips.

6. Neat Nails Reign. Always travel with an emery board. Sharp, pointed and metallic files are best left at home. Keep polish plain and in neutral tones. If the polish is neutral it does not show chips as easily. Ladies, there are even dry polish strips available that travel well and no need to worry about the messy bottle. Nice hands speak volumes to your clients.

7. Lighten Your Hair Load. Find a hair style that requires little maintenance. Experiment with different lengths to find out what works best for you. Travel with fewer hair appliances to make your load lighter, (e.g., hair dryer, flat/curling iron). Most hotels are upgrading their blow dryers and many have even removed them from the wall. Thank goodness for the small things.

8. Protect Your Skin. A great moisturizer is your best friend. Airplanes are very dehydrating. Even if you have oily skin you may benefit from a daily cleansing and moisturizing routine. Most moisturizers today are available with a sunscreen. This is further protection from the damaging affects of the sun.

9. Water Keeps You Hydrated. The single most important thing you could do for yourself is to stay hydrated. Whether you are traveling by car, train or airplane, the body needs water. The human body is mostly water. Your skin, hair and nails respond positively to hydration. Drink water before and during you trip. Remember, alcoholic beverages dehydrate you even further.

10. Have a Great Attitude. We all know people who are attractive and we know people who we think are beautiful. Most of the beautiful people have an inner beauty that separates them from the rest. Keep a good attitude. Life is short so make it beautiful.
